We wish to join the Department of Family & Children Services (DFACS), Atlanta Board of Education, The Juvenile Justice System, as well as the Justice System to help offer alternative methods to help our youth stop this vicious cycle that is destroying the lives, communities and more importantly "innocence" that once was all around our babies.

 

In our attempt to answer the call from the "Georgia Alliance for Children" we present our intentions to help keep our youth focussed by providing an alternative to incareration for the non violent offering them a choice to change.

 

 

Senator Donzella James! We applaud you for your heart & intention to assist us on whatever level we need.

 

Our Intent: We have a 5 bedroom home in a lovely community we only need to give a brief moment to share love & guidance. "Children learn what they live"

 

 

“Delia Davis Pathway Home”

Girls ages: 13 – 19

Criteria:

 

v    Minimum security level

v   Has one year remaining or is given one year away from home to rehabilitate

v   Must desire change for the betterment of self

v   Has to agree to work on behavior/attitude patterns for the better

v   Must agree to live in a home environment w/others as family unit with similar/same desires. (older girls must understand the role model concept, for there will be younger ones around)

v   Must agree to continue with education

v   Must agree to participate in counseling and other extra curricular to enhance better choices when offered options

v   Have a desire to establish map to dream by a route of reality (apprenticeship/internship after introduction to different avenues of career choices)

v   After six months of counseling & guidance must obtain part-time employment or volunteer with a non-profit of choice

v   After six months must agree to weekly meeting w/family and counselor present

 

This house is established for “girls” only – working on one for “Boys”

Our focus is to refocus and develop knowledge of love, respect for life and the importance of decision making.

To stress education and display the options that will come along with it

 

 – “Delia Davis Pathway Home”

To help with understanding of what parents may or may not be going through to rear them, and why they must learn to lend a helping hand whenever/whereever possible

To show the importance in growth away from the foolishness/nonproductivity and into positive/productivity

To steer away from destructive habits/behaviors that can tear down family & overflow into community

 

There will be a house parent but the youth will spend the majority of their time with Counselors that are trained and care for the achievement of this mission for a maximum period of six months to one year which is such a brief time work with a person.

 

We believe that a home environment is an absolute must. To help in the creation of a generation that can overcome obstacles; to grow to become loving nurturing parents (that one is destined to become whether on their own or taking on responsibilities for there may not be anyone else) one has to know the importance of striving to achieve. The time for young people rearing themselves or being reared by streets should be over. “Mama Dee's Pathway Home” is a maximum year long progression to help our youth find the “Pathway Home”

"Knowledge of self", is so very important. The reasons behind so much confusion is due to lack of this information. When children as well as parents and lets not forget those who are in the lime light lack this knowledge; unlike other races or nationalities that know, you see the "total confusion" in existance today. One has to know where they came from in order to know where they are going.

 

 

Kids In Discovery of Self, Inc. mission is to work to achieve the arena that can and will allow for self discovery that shall aid in an understanding and appreciation of life and how material items are to aid in making life better, not put it over human life.

We have been here for over 30 years, yet seeking to expand to reach the masses since 1991. Obtaining our 501(c)3 status in 2006.

 

 

 

Any interested members must have the heart and patience required to handle such a delicate mission. We refuse to have anyone on staff that can not relate. The mission is great and it takes quite a bit of patience with love and devotion.
